Key issues facing Christian peacemakers

Event Details

  • Date:

The Network of Christian Peace Organisations presents a series of meetings throughout May exploring some of the key issues facing Christian peacemakers at the present time.

The three themes covered will be racism, militarism and climate change, with a chance to hear from leading thinkers, activists and to share ideas and experiences in break-out groups. Each session will run twice, once during the day and on another day during the evening, to make it as accessible as possible.

  • Militarism today – challenges and responses
At a time of uncertainty, spending and investment in weapons and armed forces is growing. ‘Healthcare not warfare’, as campaigners have recently urged, challenges us to face the issues and to take action for a different type of security, for planet and people. With input from Chris Cole, of Drone Wars UK, this workshop will aim to inform and to provide a space for reflection and discussion.

    • Monday 10 May @ 19:30 – REGISTER
    • Tuesday 11 May @ noon – REGISTER
  • Caring for creation – tackling climate change
Climate change is one of the gravest threats facing humanity, but there is still time to make positive changes as we seek to be good stewards of creation. This session will feature the latest climate science and outlook from Liz Kalaugher from Scientists for Global Responsibility and theological insights. There’ll be plenty of time for questions and sharing ideas and experiences.

  • Owning racism as a white problem – and really changing
In this workshop we will analyse how we all suffer from unconscious bias and are often unaware of our privilege as white people. John Cooper of the Fellowship of Reconciliation will give us some theological insights. We hope that this will be a step on the way to becoming actively anti-racist as individuals and will help us to encourage our congregations to move forward.

All the sessions are completely free, but we ask that you register first to help us with planning of numbers.
